HISTORY OF HORMEL FOODS
- In 1891 Geo. A. Hormel & Co. is founded by George Hormel in Austin, Minnesota. In 1901 the company opens its first branch in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1926 it produces the first canned ham in the world.
- In 1928 Geo. A. Hormel & Co. becomes a public company. In the late 1930’s the company introduces its first Dinty Moore Beef Stew, SPAM and Hormel Chili which is still popular brands today. During the Second World War more than 15 million cans of meat are shipped overseas every week.
- In 1941 the Hormel Foundation is created.

- In 1993 the company is renamed Hormel Foods Corporation. From 2000 to 2013 Hormel buys SKIPPY Peanut Butter, CytoSport, Inc. as well as Applegate Farms, LLC. Hormel and the Cancer Nutrition Consortium enters a partnership where Hormel would provide nutritional food to the individual needs of cancer patients while being treated.
