? Burberry Group Plc is a manufacturer and retailer of fashionable items.

The company operates through its Retail, Wholesale and Licensing divisions. Its portfolio offers men, women and children’s apparel, beauty products, fragrances, fashion accessories and sunglasses.

Products are of high quality and unique to the Burberry brand. The company is most famous for its trench coats.

It operates approximately 95 stores in North and South America, 142 stores in Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as 194 stores in Asia Pacific.

Burberry Group Plc is a FTSE 100 Index company. It employs approximately 9 800 people and is headquartered in London, England.

OVERVIEW OF BURBERRY GROUP PLC

  • In 1856 Thomas Burberry founds the Burberry brand. He opens the first store in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England.

  • In the late 1970’s Burberry invents a durable, waterproof fabric named gabardine.

  • In 1891 the company moves to it first London store. The first Burberry Paris store is opened in 1909. Through the years several explorers make use of Burberry gabardine clothing and tents in their expeditions, including Dr Fritjof Nansen when exploring the Arctic Circle, Major F.G. Jackson in his expedition to Franz Josef Land and Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen and his team who is the first to reach the South Pole.

  • During the First World War the Armed Forces military make use of Burberry apparel and equipment.

  • In 1920 Burberry becomes a public company. During the Second World War the company supplies military apparel and accessories to the British Army.

  • In 1955 the company is granted a Royal Warrant as a Weatherproofer by HM Queen Elizabeth II. The same year Great Universal Stores, a United Kingdom retailer group buys Burberry.

  • In 2002 Burberry lists on the London Stock Exchange and has its initial public offering.

  • In 2004 it launches a website and products can be purchased online. Burberry demerges from Great Universal Stores in 2005.

  • It expands in 2008 with Burberry Middle East and launches its philanthropic organization, the Burberry Foundation, the same year.

  • During the next few years Burberry Group Plc expand to India, Saudi Arabia and several other countries.

  • Data analysis for the company’s annual report for 2019 shows a revenue of £ 2,720 million. Adjusted operating profit is £ 438 million. Operating profit is £ 437 million. Net cash for the end of March 30, 2019 is £ 837 million.

  • Adjusted diluted EPS is 82.1p. Dividends are £ 42.5p. Revenue by channel is £ 2,186 million for retail, £ 488 million for wholesale and £ 46 million for licensing.
